Un appello ai signori dell’UEFA
Is Italy ready to host the European Football Championships in 2012?
Italian football has been making headlines on national and international newspapers for years now. But not for what happens on the field.
Among the most known scandals of the last few years… passports forged to disguise foreign players as European, bankruptcies of several top tier teams, players betting on their own matches (twenty years later, again). Finally, in 2006, “Calciopoli”, the scandal of scandals, involving many top teams – among which Milan, Juventus and Lazio – and bringing Juventus to relegation and a penalty of 17 points (promptly reduced to 9 after a few months). In the meantime, Juventus had already been involved in the use of illegal drugs for doping – there was no punishment only because the time allowed for trial had expired.
And then, rankings and relegations decided in tribunals rather than by playing, the scandal of phone calls by team managers to direct referees, the scandal of the GEA, a company of player agents owned by sons of politicians, bankers and football managers, that controlled the careers of hundreds of Serie A players.
Was the World Cup won in Germany enough to clean up the conscience of Italian football from its failures and sins? It seems so, given that Italy is now up for being awarded the Euro 2012 Championships.
In Italy, however, many citizens are disgusted by this. After “Calciopoli”, the attempt to change the trend of corruption and scandals has clearly failed; all seems to change on the surface not to change anything in practice. And the Italian Federation and League shamelessly reappointed their old managers.
Even among fans, there is often no true culture of fair play. Juventus supporters, when the scandal erupted, exposed a banner saying “Il fine giustifica i mezzi” (“The purpose justifies any means”); Palermo supporters once showed banners against laws that hardened the prison regime for Mafia bosses.
In this rotten situation, violence erupts continuously, with frequent riots among fans of different clubs and with the police, with several seriously injured fans per week. Sometimes, it leaves dead people on the ground; the last, a police officer killed on the 3rd of February 2007 in Catania, during the match against Palermo.
Italy is a place where violence is contrasted only after someone dies, and only by laws and practices that are theoretically very hard – even unconstitutional – but have no practical effect. Only a few days ago, the supporters of Manchester United experimented in Rome how violent and ineffective is the Italian police in keeping stadiums peaceful. Italy is a place where there is no prevention, but just useless and random repression.
By awarding to Italy the European Championships, the idle and corrupt policies of the Italian government and football leaders would be supported; not awarding them would finally make everyone in Italy aware that this country does not lack repression, but a true sporting culture.
Moreover, the European Championships in Italy would give way to further corruption in the building of new stadiums and in the other necessary activities, as it already happened for the 1990 World Cup. For example, in Torino strong quarrels have already arisen over the town council’s decision to request public financial assistance to Juventus for the rebuilding of the Delle Alpi stadium. The money for Euro 2012 would surreptitiously fund a few Italian teams, thwarting once again competition among teams in Italy and in Europe.
For all these reasons, we – a group of Italian supporters and citizens that are ashamed of the situation of football in our country – plead your kind support to our request: please, do not award Euro 2012 or any other competition to Italy, as long as there is not a real change of culture and leaders in the Italian football.

Interessante e condivisibile opinione, ma temo che, vista la teribbile concorrenza degli altri Paesi candidati(Turchia, Grecia, Polonia-Ucraina, Croazia-Ungheria) i giochi siano già fatti..
Il 18 aprile è vicino e cercherò di dominare la curiosità ! :D

I really don’t care about European championships, but I’d like to clarify one point. It’s true that Juventus has been involved in a trial concerning the use of illegal drugs for doping, but the statement about the lack of punishment due to expiry of the allowed time for the trial is false. The judges have rebutted the appeal of the persecutors for the assumption of EPO, that’s to say Juventus has been completely cleared from the accusations of doping. The judges have stated that there is only an “abstract condivision” (sic) of the persecutors’ appeal regarding the abuse of legal drugs performed by the team physician. This means that there are doubts only about the deontology of the physician, and that a new trial for just this part would be needed, if they had time.

Ma siamo proprio sicuri che sarebbe un vantaggio non avere gli Europei in Italia?
Sono stato a Pasqua in Portogallo e lì si parla ancora dell’impennata che il turismo ha avuto a partire dagli Europei del 2004. Con tutti i soldi che il baraccone calcio drena dalle finanze pubbliche (e private) non è forse il caso che ogni tanto essere “Campioni del Mondo” dia anche qualche vantaggio anche a coloro ai quali del calcio non importa nulla? Siamo proprio sicuri di voler rinunciare a questi vantaggi per concederli ad un paese come la Polonia in cui il Primo Ministro e il Presidente della Repubblica sono fratelli ed in confronto dei quali Bossi è un politico progressista ed illuminato? In alternativa tra le candidate c’è un paese come la Croazia il cui governo nega tuttora il genocidio delle foibe oppure la Turchia il cui governo nega il genocidio di un milione di armeni. Siamo sicuri della nostra scelta?
Crediamo forse che se all’Italia non fossero assegnati gli Europei i vertici della Federazione e della Lega se ne andrebbero? Se Calciopoli non è bastata per rinnovare il Calcio dubito che servirà l’assegnazione degli Europei a qualcun altro.
Se vogliamo ripulire il nostro calcio sarebbe forse più utile farsi alcune domande. Ad esempio:
Come mai l’unico arbitro che andava effettivamente a cena con i dirigenti di società (Collina) è diventato adesso designatore (sì, proprio come Bergamo e Pairetto)?
Come mai da quando Tedeschi è stato costretto alle dimissioni e sostituito da Collina gli arbitri di serie A, che prima erano giudicati dalla stampa delle schiappe, sono diventati dei fenomeni?
Come mai sullo scandalo delle false plusvalenze e annessi e connessi è calato il silenzio da quando il Presidente di Lega ha ricordato a Borrelli che le sue inchieste e le sue dichiarazioni “scuotevano il sistema”?
Quante telefonate riceve oggi Collina da dirigenti di società ?
Quanto Neoton e quanto Voltaren si consuma oggi nel calcio italiano?
Se qualcuno ha delle risposte è il benvenuto…

Il presidente e il primo ministro della repubblica polacca non sono solo fratelli, ma GEMELLI.
Mi sembra che la nostra italiuccia, quanto a repressione ed esercizio casuale della violenza, sia meno peggio delle controparti. Ma facciamoli qua, gli europei!

Ovvero gli europei si faranno proprio in Polonia. Tutto sommato è giusto così. In Polonia saranno governati da una oligarchia familiare xenofoba che sta mettendo in piedi una caccia alle streghe nei confronti dei presunti ex-comunisti che include anche i reduci dalla guerra civile spagnola, ma dubito arrivino a chiedere di fare altrove gli europei per il rischio di favorire in tal modo la squadra di calcio rivale. Non credo che in nessun altro luogo al mondo si riesca ad arrivare a tanto.
Meno male che il Calcio non fa parte delle Olimpiadi invernali se no ci saremmo probabilmente persi pure quelle…

Il motivo per cui non ci hanno assegnato gli Europei non è certo il Delle Alpi. Se mai, è lo stato vergognoso del calcio e della società italiana tutta, di cui la vicenda Delle Alpi è solo uno di milioni di sintomi. Consiglio di rileggere l’appello qui sopra… non credo che sia mai stato letto all’UEFA, ma immagino siano arrivati da soli alle stesse conclusioni.

Sono indignato della reazione dei giornalisti italiani… si è parlato fin dal primo momento dall’assegnazione di manovre politiche nell’ombra, senza tener conto del fatto che questo Paese è marcio… d’altronde noi abbiamo ospitato 2 volte un Europeo e 2 volte un mondiale, senza contare 1 olimpiade invernale ed una estiva… e con tutti i lavori di ammodernamento che ci sarebbero dovuti essere, a quest’ora non avremmo mai avuto bisogno di fare degli sforzi sovrumani per poter mettere le strutture a norma o rifare le città da capo… Allora visto che la nostra mentalità è da Quarto Mondo, facciamo spazio a chi ha voglia di emergere ed è pronta a sfruttare la prima opportunità capitata…

Dimenticavo anche questo: chi governava in Italia quando le sono stati assegnati i Mondiali del ’34? Ed in Germania, per le Olimpiadi di Berlino ’36? (è vero che quei due tizi non avevano ancora compiuto tutte le porcherie per cui sono passati alla storia, comunque non credo che fossero più stimati dell’attuale presidente polacco). Anche se il trionfo del razzismo sono state le Olimpiadi del 1904 a St.Louis, dove i “non bianchi” gareggiavano a parte.
